Latest news from our RESPONSE PAGE, the most one
thing wanted by the people of our community is a Pier for all to fish off of! With all the water around us I have to agree' I just wonder if our leaders are listening in here and visiting our website to hear this!!! Fishing is one of the most popular sports here in the Rockaways. Imaging that, a very large concrete pier going out into
the ocean here in the Rockaways with a Bait & Tackle Shop where you can rent a pole so you don't have to bring your own. Maybe a section with a few Charter/Party boats! Let me stop' a pier all in itself would be enough to get everyone back out on our beaches for a day of fishing or viewing the Fireworks!!! Our e-mails also indicate a
need for more public docks on our east end near the Atlantic Beach Bridge.
Remember' PUBLIC PIER, not PRIVATE!!!

1.88. Public Pier. A public pier is a publicly owned manmade structure that has the following characteristics: is connected, above the mean high tide, to the main coastline or to the landmass of a named and charted natural island; has unrestricted free access for the general public; and has been
built or currently functions for the primary purpose of allowing angling access to ocean waters. Additionally, publicly owned jetties or breakwaters that are connected to land, as described above, that have free unrestricted access for the general public and whose purpose it is to form the most seaward protective boundary of an ocean harbor are public piers. Jetties, breakwaters, promenades, sea
walls, moles, docks, linings, barriers and other structures that are not the most seaward protective boundary of an ocean harbor, are not public piers.

To make this all happen we need creative ideas and workable plans that do not involve more and more government money. |

"In the park, hear the happy sound of the carousel,
You can almost taste the hot dogs and french fries they sell.
Under the boardwalk, down by the sea..." --The Drifters
Did you know that even in places like Hawaii there are no private beaches? Instead every mile of coastline to the reach of the high-water mark plus some dry sand is shared by all. The Hawaii Supreme Court has assured the public's right to use of their beaches. Many private landowners fully cooperate with
the spirit of the law., providing not only paved access from highway and streets to the shore, but public parking, as well. ...;-)
Beaches
A Puerto Rico visit isn't complete without some time in the sand and sun. By law, all Puerto Rican playas (beaches) are open to the public. The government maintains more than a dozen balnearios (public beaches) around the island, with dressing rooms; lifeguards; parking; and in some cases picnic tables, playgrounds, and
camping facilities. Admission is free.
